Beaches around Alibaug

Tired with the hustle and bustle of your everyday busy schedule …you surely need a break. Lay back and enjoy the solitude, the serenity and the harmony of the sea, the setting sun and the cool breezes over the coast. Alibaug is well known for its beautiful coastline lending a inventory a stunning beaches.

Palmeraie Holidays is located just 15 mins walking from one such most popular Nagaon beach. The beach is well known for its water sports activities.

The other beaches along side are just a drive away. To mention a few Akshi  beach ( 5 mins), Alibaug beach (15 mins), Kihim beach (20 mins), Kashid beach (30 mins) and many more .

Apart from these Alibaug has a very rich heritage of ancient temples

Bhimeshwar Mandir – Located just less than 100 meters from the Villas is one of the most oldest temple of Alibaug. It is said to be built about 350 years ago. It is recorded that this temple was renovated in 1758.

Birla Ganesh Mandir – Located 14 kms from the villa it is a temple built in pure milk white marble and its dome can be seen from a long distance also. It can be reached by road or by climbing the steps. While climbing the temple steps one is always mesmerized by the landscape. On both sides of the steps is green velvet carpet of grass and beautiful flowers which will keep you spell bound for a minute.

Worship and Aarti is done at 9.00 a. m. and 7.00 p. m. everyday.The temple is open for the public from 6.00 a. m. to 11.30 a. m. and 4.30 p. m. to 9.00 p. m.

Kankeshwar Temple This a very famous Shiv temple about 20 kms away from our place. It is located on a 900 ft. high hill with a 5000-foot climb on well-paved stairs, which takes around one hour. To enjoy the trek one must start early morning to enjoy the site of different birds as you climb your stairs. Landmarks along the route are tombs of MohanGiri and Balgiri, Nagoba Rest, Jambhali Plateau, God’s stair, Gaymandi etc. The scenic temple premises comprises small temples of Sri Paleshwar, Sri Hanuman, Sri Balram Krishna and Lord Shiv. The special attraction is an ancient sweet water tank enclosed in traditional structure of black stone.

Kolaba Fort

It is a a sea fort at a distance of 2 KM from the beach at Alibag, Maharashtra. It was a fortified maritime base of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Today it is a protected monument with a pleasant sea view of the Arabian sea. It is situated at a distance of 2 kms from the shores of Alibag in the sea,

Revdanda Fort

This fort was built by Portuguese Capt. Soj, and completed in 1524. It was in the control of Portuguese till 1806 when it was captured by Marathas. Finally it was captured by British in 1818.

Murud Janjira Fort

Murud Janjira Fort is a mighty fortification located on an island off of the coastal village of Murud, 55 km from Alibag in Maharashtra. Towering up from a massive rock amidst the stretching azure of the Arabian Sea, this fort has stood the test of time as well as the test of resilience in the past. This fort is a must visit if you are travelling along the Konkan coast in Maharashtra. Nineteen of the fort’s bastions still stand to this date, reflecting their glorious past with pride. Just a short boat ride away from the sandy coast, the roof of the magnificent fort not only offers a glimpse into the past but also has a spectacular view of the Arabian Sea all around.

Karmarkar Museum 

A museum of exquisite sculptures from the renowned sculptor Padmashri V.P. Karmarkar in Sasavne, about 25 km from Nagaon.

Magnetic Observatory 

Established in 1904 by the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism. Although after 26/11, the security has been tightened and access to the Observatory has been restricted. A written permission from the Panvel office of Indian Institute of Geomagnetism needs to be presented when entering the premises of the Observatory in Alibaug.

Hirakot Lake Garden

During 1720, Kanhoji Angre built Hirakot with the intention of safe keeping of the accumulated treasure of his kingdom. For this reason, the fort has very high and sturdy walls on all sides. In the present day it has been converted to a modern Jail or prison under the Government of India. The fortification still is so strong that it is impossible for anyone to enter or exit easily. A visit to Alibag, one should not miss the beautiful black structure of Hirakot. The main doorway is a huge one with carved wooden door and a small temple of Lord Ganesha on the left. The entrance to this area is restricted due to the present prison formation. By the side of this huge structure is the Hirakot Lake, which is an enormous water body and maintained by the municipality. Boat rides are available on this lake. Small and manicured garden surround the entire lake region.
